All That Dog

Welcome to All That Dog

Hi, I’m Denise, the person behind All That Dog.
Dogs have been at the centre of my life for as long as I can remember. What began as a love of dogs turned into a career that’s taken me through almost every corner of the dog world. Over the last 13 years I’ve worked in daycare, grooming, training, boarding and pet retail, and I’ve built my own dog walking and training business here in Edinburgh. I’ve shared my life with Dalmatians for years and spent time competing in dog shows. Through all of it, one thing kept pulling at me. I wasn’t just interested in caring for dogs. I wanted to understand how they learn, how they communicate, and why they do what they do.

That question is what led me into training and behaviour.

The more dogs I worked with, the clearer it became that behaviour is rarely about a dog being stubborn or an owner getting it wrong. Usually it’s a dog struggling to cope with something. Sometimes it’s a breakdown in communication between dog and owner. Often it’s a family buried under so much conflicting advice they no longer know what to trust.

My biggest teacher was my deaf Dalmatian, Chloe. Living and training with a dog who couldn’t hear taught me more about communication than any book ever could. She showed me how much dogs read our body language, our movement, our timing and our consistency. And she proved something I still believe today. There is no one size fits all in training. Every dog is an individual. They learn differently, respond differently, and need different things. What works beautifully for one dog can be completely wrong for another.

Most of the owners I work with feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or quietly worried they’re letting their dog down. They’ve watched the videos and read the articles and tried a bit of everything, and they’re still not seeing the progress they hoped for.

My job isn’t only to help your dog. It’s to help you feel confident too.

Strong relationships, with dogs and with their owners, are at the heart of how I work. I want the dogs I train to feel safe, understood and happy to see me, and I want their owners to feel supported the whole way through. I’ll always be honest, practical and realistic. I’ll explain what to do and why you’re doing it, because once you understand your dog’s behaviour, training stops feeling overwhelming and starts making sense. Training should bring you and your dog closer, not make life more complicated.
Whether we’re working on recall, loose lead walking, over excitement, settling at home, or getting your dog ready for group walks, the goal never changes. A calmer, happier life together. If that’s what you’re looking for, I’d love to hear about you and your dog.
